Courses/ Education: throughout the
year courses are offered to members that are interested in gaining some
knowledge and skills in the field of coaching.
In 2007, we had 10 people
participate in the CanoeKids Community Coaching Course recognized by
CanoeKayak Canada and the National Coaching Certification Program.
Junior coaches are taken throughout the summer months to assist NCKC
staff with community outreach programs and summer camps. It is a
valuable experience for the youth and a huge asset for the Club.
Many of our junior coaches return to become members of our
coaching staff in following years.
Last year, the NCKC hosted the
Community Dragon Boat Coaching Course and the CanoeKids Community
Coaching Course which trained local coaches in the various disciplines
and levels of entry level coaching.
Each year the NCKC employes Summer
Staff with the help from HRDC Summer Student Grants to work with the
week long Summer Camps and influx of new members in the recreational
drop-in program.
Currently, the NCKC has the
Vancouver Island Regional Coach working closely with the Club on a year
round basis and has employed 3 other full time staff for the months of
July and August with a Part-Time Instructor for July and August as
well. We are looking forward to a safe and fun, bustling
season on the water!!
Check back frequently for updates on
coaching opportunties. For more information on how you can get
involved as a Junior Coach or a Coach in Training, please send us an
